New Data on Women’s Careers

New findings from a 10-year study by the Equal Opportunities Commission (UK)

New findings from a 2-year study by the Equal Opportunities Commission (UK) show that 75% of females continue to occupy a range of only 5 occupational groups – including Cleaning, Catering, Caring, Cashiering and Clerical.

Woman-identified jobs command lower wages than male-identified work even if women require similar qualifications. This leads to promulgating the pay inequity situation.

Those industries with the lowest numbers of women are also experiencing skill shortages, eg construction, engineering, plumbing, ICT.

It appears there is still significant work to be done in redressing the gender issues within the UK workplace.
