The U.N. has declared October 11 as marking the International Day of the Girl Child.
This year, 2017, the focus is on data. A number of strategies and initiatives are underway to quantify issues surrounding young females, especially in developing countries to enhance the lives and livelihood of young girls. Data for example around child brides shows that one third of girls are married before the age of 18. The consequences of such behaviour on developing children is concerning.
At springboard.org.au we see first hand in our Western world the magic that happens when women increase their confidence and capability through the empowering Springboard Women’s Development Program so we celebrate this initiative.
